Participants will be walking 2K or 5K in and around Weston. The starting point will be YWALC, rain or shine (we are hoping for shine).

You can send a cheque by mail to YWALC 1901 Weston Rd. Weston, ON M9N 3P5 please write in the memo portion of your cheque (walkathon or walk), pay by credit card for sponsorships of $20.00 or more, over the phone 416-245-4395, or you can drop off a donation at our reception.

All funds raised go directly to support our programs.

One Volunteer Board of Director Position Available with York West Active Living Centre

York West Active Living Centre (YWALC) is a community based resource centre for persons 55 years of age and older residing in the City of Toronto. YWALC’s mission is to promote, encourage and support healthy, independent living through a wide range of health and wellness programs, educational workshops and multicultural activities.

YWALC understands the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle and therefore we strive to maintain a wide range of leisure, fitness, educational, health and wellness programs that work for our members.  Our membership and activities reflect the diverse population of our community and we enthusiastically accept the challenge of bringing forward new and exciting programs to meet the needs of all our members

Our Centre is a member based organization with governance provided by a twelve member Board of Directors, all of whom are volunteers of the Centre.

YWALC is currently looking to fill one vacant position with the skillset of Corporate Sponsorship/Relationships.

The term would begin October 2023 and end October, 2025 at which time there is potential for re-election for an additional two year term.

Try Before You Buy Agenda and Program Descriptions for Friday September 8

  • All guests who would like to try a fitness class or the workout room are required to sign a guest waiver and should come appropriately attired

In-person registration 8:30 am to 1:00 pm 

Body Boot Camp/Modified 9:00 am
A high intensity full body workout that focuses on core stability, muscle strengthening, balance and  flexibility. Modified if required. This workout is the next step up for anyone aiming to increase their fitness level.

Watercolour Painting 9:30 am
Learn how to paint within a friendly, relaxed setting. You will be taught basic painting and drawing techniques; brush strokes and enjoy the satisfaction of a completed project.

Drum Fitness 11:00 am
This class utilizes movement and rhythm with sticks and resistance balls. Sit or stand, this class delivers real cardio and toning at the same time.

Craft Club Social 12:30 pm
Bring your knitting project and enjoy the afternoon in the company of women.

Zumba Gold 1:00 pm
Zumba Gold is a modified Zumba class for active older adults that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination.

Social Bridge 1:30 pm
Social bridge is suitable for the experienced bridge player. This card group is open to anyone who would like to come out and enjoy an afternoon of cards.  No partner necessary.

Centro Esperanza (HOPE) 9:30 am
HOPE is a lively in-person or virtual space where Spanish-speaking older adults (55+), have the opportunity to learn and improve English and conversation skills. HOPE promotes, individual development and social integration, through educational activities.
El Centro Esperanza es un espacio virtual o en persona para adultos mayores de 55 años, de habla hispana. Aquí miembros tienen la oportunidad de aprender y perfeccionar su conocimiento del Inglés.

Low Stress Chair Fit 10:00 am
This class focuses on strength training through modified exercise routines. Ideal for individuals who want to increase their coordination and endurance for exercise but are not sure how to start. Sit or stand.

Line Dancing Beginners 11:30 am
Move your feet to great songs, old and new. Basic line dance steps are used to create many routines.  All line dancers will gain balance and coordination, and increase their endurance. Beginners should have a good fundamental knowledge of line dance.

Spanish Class 12:00 pm
Spanish Class is for all levels. Beginners will enjoy personal attention at the beginning of class and more advanced participants will dive into grammar and sentence structure. The class will come to completion with relaxed conversation, in Spanish, so that all can join in.

Line Dancing Improvers 1:00 pm
Move your feet to great songs, old and new. Basic line dance steps are used to create many routines.  All line dancers will gain balance and coordination, and increase their endurance. Improvers are ready for more complex routines.

Colouring 1:30 pm
Lose yourself in quiet and colour. Today, we will supply the
pencil crayons, and colouring book!

Cribbage 1:30 pm
Come and enjoy an afternoon of this timeless game.
